This $144,085 federal Project Grant award from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) under the Environmental Health (CFDA 93.113) program will fund the Pennsylvania Asthma-COPD Syndromic Surveillance (PASS) project at Lehigh University. The goal of this project is to develop an early-warning system for tracking environmental health risks that contribute to chronic respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD in Pennsylvania. Specifically, the project will integrate environmental monitoring data with population health data to distinguish emergent air pollution risks from underlying socioeconomic and built environment vulnerabilities. This will allow the researchers to better predict respiratory disease outbreaks and inform targeted interventions to protect public health. The project period runs from July 2024 to April 2028.
