The Regents of the University of Michigan received a $545,630 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) under the Discovery and Applied Research for Technological Innovations to Improve Human Health (CFDA 93.286) program. The objective of this 4-year award is to develop bispecific antibodies (BABs) fused to the cytokine interleukin-2 (IL-2), referred to as IL-2 immunocytokines, that can non-invasively and efficiently deliver IL-2 to the central nervous system (CNS) to induce regulatory T cells (Tregs) and suppress neuroinflammation. The research aims to evaluate the optimal format and dosing of these IL-2 immunocytokines to maximize Treg induction in the CNS while minimizing peripheral effects, as well as assess the efficacy of these CNS-targeted depots for protecting against neuroinflammation in animal models of traumatic brain injury and multiple sclerosis. This research has significant potential to enable future fundamental and translational studies for treating diverse acute and chronic neurological disorders.
