The Brigham & Women's Hospital Inc. received a $412,801 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (CFDA 93.286: Discovery and Applied Research for Technological Innovations to Improve Human Health) to develop an "Abbreviated Yet Enhanced Neuro MRI Protocol." The project aims to create a time-abbreviated, comprehensive brain MRI exam that captures quantitative and qualitative MRI contrasts, as well as gadolinium-based enhancement, in approximately 8 minutes. This represents a three-fold reduction in exam duration compared to typical 20-30 minute brain MRI exams. The new 3D multi-pathway multi-echo MRI sequence and associated machine learning techniques will be evaluated with 200 patients and 25 healthy volunteers to assess qualitative, quantitative, and diagnostic outcomes. This project supports the program's goal of advancing biomedical imaging technologies to improve healthcare.
