The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a $334,233 Project Grant under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393) to the University of South Carolina (USC) to conduct a comprehensive study on disparities in novel cancer treatments and outcomes. The project will link USC's state cancer registry data with all-payer claims and mental health treatment records to create a diverse patient cohort. Researchers will examine the impacts of novel targeted therapies, comorbidities, and multilevel social and environmental factors on treatment outcomes and survival disparities for lung and colon cancer patients, particularly among minority and rural populations in South Carolina. The 5-year project aims to identify modifiable intervention targets and disseminate findings to inform cancer care and policy.
