- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Scripps Research Institute $865,432 on July 23, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to dissect the mechanisms of action of saponin combination adjuvants for vaccine development. The award funds research into saponin/monophosphoryl lipid A nanoparticles (SMNP), cage-like nanostructures that combine saponins derived from the Chilean soapbark tree with a Toll-like receptor-4 agonist. The...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Scripps Research Institute $919,363 on August 17, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to investigate the molecular mechanisms governing plasma cell longevity and the establishment of long-lived plasma cells (LLPCs) at mucosal surfaces and bone marrow. The research addresses why current influenza vaccines require annual boosters by examining how plasma cells generated during viral...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded the Scripps Research Institute $1.097 million on August 17, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to develop germline-targeted HIV vaccines using membrane ENV liposomes designed to elicit broadly neutralizing antibodies against the membrane-proximal external region (MPER) of the HIV envelope glycoprotein. The research program uses a vaccine platform (membrane ENV liposomes) that displays...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Scripps Research Institute $552,000 on August 3, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to conduct functional characterization of dendritic cell heterogeneity for T cell-inducing immunotherapies. The research addresses vaccine development for intracellular pathogens including HIV/AIDS and malaria by investigating the distinct roles of type 1 and type 2 conventional dendritic cells in...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, awarded the Scripps Research Institute $937,343 on August 1, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855). The award funds research optimizing vaccine-elicited cross-neutralizing antibody responses targeting the HIV envelope (Env) trimer apex to inform broadly neutralizing antibody (BnAb) development for...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Scripps Research Institute $276,000 on July 1, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to evaluate HIV-1 envelope-C3D constructs on nanoparticles for structure, function, and immunogenicity. Scripps will assess ENV-C3D fusion candidates carrying two and three copies of C3D domains per GP160 subunit (with or without Fc domain) in C57BL/6 and alloy mice. The research will measure germinal...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Scripps Research Institute $552,000 on July 16, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to investigate plasma cell longevity and survival mechanisms beyond antibody production. The research uses engineered mouse models, specifically a double fate-mapper system designed to track long-lived plasma cells over time and understand the molecular, cellular, and clonal properties they acquire as they...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded the Scripps Research Institute $511,531 on February 13, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to advance HIV vaccine development using a lipid nanodisc platform. The project, designated R01AI192143, addresses challenges in engineering transmembrane HIV envelope glycoprotein (ENV) vaccine candidates by incorporating them into stable lipid nanodiscs using membrane scaffold proteins and...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded the Scripps Research Institute $3.679 million on August 5, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to develop self-assembling protein nanoparticles presenting stabilized hemagglutinin, neuraminidase, and M2E antigens for universal influenza vaccine development.
