The National Institute on Aging (NIA) awarded a $791,086 Project Grant under CFDA 93.866 (Aging Research) to the Northern California Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (NCIRE) to develop machine learning-based computational models that predict the presence of three major non-Alzheimer's disease neuropathological changes (non-ADNC) in individuals with Alzheimer's disease neuropathological changes (ADNC). The models will leverage multimodal neuroimaging data, clinical assessments, and longitudinal data from autopsy-confirmed cohorts to improve the ability to detect Lewy body disease, TDP-43 proteinopathy, and cerebral amyloid angiopathy in ADNC patients. This will aid in optimizing clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease treatments by better accounting for the presence of co-pathologies. NCIRE is partnering with the University of California, San Francisco as a sub-awardee on the project to provide expertise in neuropsychological/cognitive/behavioral data analysis and consultation. The project has an award date of December 1, 2024 and an ultimate completion date of November 30, 2029.
