The Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded a $742,500 Project Grant under the Metropolitan Transportation Planning and State and Non-Metropolitan Planning and Research program (CFDA 20.505) to the Port Authority of Allegheny County, doing business as Pittsburgh Regional Transit. The funds will be used to conduct a study evaluating new transit options to link the Strip District, Hill District, Oakland, Hazelwood, Carrick, and Overbrook neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The study will assess transit technologies, route alignments, and station locations, forecast ridership, develop an operating plan, estimate capital and operating costs, and evaluate the project's impact on environmental justice and climate change. Three rounds of public outreach and community design workshops are planned as part of the study. The completed evaluation is expected to produce recommendations for further planning, environmental review, and implementation of a new transit project to improve connectivity between these neighborhoods.
