The City of Dallas City Manager's Office Division received a $1,400,000 federal Project Grant award from the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures program (CFDA 15.929) to restore four large interior murals and the ceiling of the Rotunda in the Tower Building at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. The project aims to uncover and fully restore the WPA-created artwork, which has been covered for over 80 years, in order to showcase the historic art pieces depicting the spirit, ingenuity, and geographic diversity of the American people. Key activities include hiring an architectural restoration firm to research the scope of work, bring in a paint conservator to analyze the materials and determine the best restoration approach, and provide ongoing oversight and documentation. The restored murals and ceiling will be exhibited for the over 5.5 million annual visitors to the Tower Building and Fair Park, enriching their experience with this rediscovered historic artwork.
