The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control awarded the Utica City Hall's Urban and Economic Development Division a $3,974,989 Project Grant under the Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program (CFDA 14.900). This 4-year grant, effective November 15, 2023, will fund comprehensive efforts to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in privately-owned low-income housing in Utica, New York. Key activities include lead inspections, risk assessments, interim controls, and abatement to protect children under age six from lead poisoning. The grant will also support building local capacity for lead-safe work practices, affirmative marketing of lead-safe units, and data collection to evaluate outcomes. As a sub-recipient, the Division collaborates with local nonprofits such as United Way of the Mohawk Valley, Utica Safe Schools HSP, and Abraham House to deliver complementary services.
