The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, Nevada (RTC) received a $3.42 million Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Federal Transit Formula Grants program (CFDA 20.507) to fund the purchase of replacement transit vehicles. Specifically, the grant will provide $3.25 million in Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) funds, which represent 95% of total project costs, to replace aging 2008 Gillig buses that have reached the end of their useful twelve-year lifespan. RTC will provide the remaining $171,053 in local matching funds. The replacement vehicles and associated costs will be delivered by July 2023 to support RTC's ongoing fixed route public transportation services in northern Nevada.
