Laplace Gives Coalition will establish a comprehensive, community-level prevention infrastructure to reduce underage alcohol and tobacco use in Saint John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, targeting youth ages 9–18. During Year 1, the coalition will build capacity and implement coordinated individual and environmental strategies across seven core prevention approaches. Activities include creating alcohol-free community environments during high school football and fall events; establishing a Youth Development Committee to ensure peer-led messaging reinforcing norms opposing alcohol and tobacco use; and implementing evidence-based strategies to improve age-verification compliance among alcohol and tobacco retailers and reduce open-container violations parish-wide. These efforts are designed to increase youth perception of risk, strengthen community disapproval of use, and reduce youth access to controlled substances. The coalition will measure outcomes including increased perception of harm, increased disapproval of use, and initial reductions in 30-day alcohol and tobacco use among youth ages 9–18.
