The Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command awarded BAE Systems Maritime Solutions Norfolk Inc. (doing business as Norshipco) $909,186 on September 30, 2025, under the Improvement of Navy Ship Repair or Alterations Capability Program (CFDA 12.031) to procure and install an MPC2000 Precision Cutting System.
The MPC2000 will serve all Navy surface repair programs, with emphasis on DDG AMOD 2.0 support. The system integrates one plasma torch capable of piercing 2-inch steel plate and one oxy-fuel torch capable of cutting 5-inch steel plate, with both torches beveling to 45 degrees and K-bevel. The cutting table, rails, and gantry accommodate a 15-foot by 50-foot plate on the cutting surface to allow beveling of the entire perimeter. The system includes an ink jet print head for marking parts before cutting, multiple safety emergency stops, and a dust collection system with HEPA filtration to remove fumes including those from stainless steel cutting. The recipient expects sustained precision cutting capability for 20 years with improved efficiency and expanded repair capabilities.
Period of performance runs through May 12, 2026. Work is performed at Norfolk, Virginia. This is a Project Grant assistance type, awarded as a capital improvement to enhance shipyard efficiency and operational capability on U.S. Navy non-nuclear surface ships. The grant funds reimbursable expenses; costs incurred prior to obligation are ineligible for reimbursement.
