Arizona State University was awarded a $121,529.81 Project Grant from the Department of the Navy Secretary of the Navy Office of Naval Research to support GPU servers for computational biomaterial design, evolutionary GPU code optimization, and on-line simulations from August 5, 2021 to August 4, 2022.
The funding supports the university's work under the Basic and Applied Scientific Research program (CFDA 12.300), which aims to stimulate basic and applied research with potential to improve naval operations and train future researchers. Specifically, the grant provides computational resources to design advanced biomaterials through genetic algorithm techniques running on graphical processing units (GPUs). Researchers will optimize software code for GPU architectures and simulate material properties in an interactive online platform. The award recipient, Arizona State University, will leverage its expertise in computational design and materials science to advance technologies of interest to the Navy.
