The University of Iowa received a $150,000 Project Grant award from the Department of the Navy Secretary of the Navy Office of Naval Research to support global and local flow modeling and validation experiments for free-running KCS maneuvering in waves from May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2023. Under the Basic and Applied Scientific Research program (CFDA 12.300), the University will conduct modeling and experimental work to improve naval operations through potential advances in modeling naval vessel maneuverability in ocean waves. The program supports research with potential to enhance naval capabilities. The University's work will provide data and analysis to validate simulation tools for naval ship maneuvering, informing future ship design and operational practices.
