The Maine Department of Transportation was awarded a $173,749 Project Grant from the Federal Transit Administration's Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program (CFDA 20.513) on May 18, 2023. The grant funding will support expanded demand response transportation services for individuals with disabilities, seniors, and other transit dependent populations through six regional nonprofit transit providers across Maine until June 30, 2025. Specifically, sub-awards will enable Aroostook Regional Transportation System, Downeast Community Partners, Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, The Lynx-Penquis Regional Transportation Program, Waldo Community Action Partners, and York County Community Action Corporation to provide additional operating assistance for ADA paratransit services, summer and evening service hours, and microtransit options. The grant aims to improve mobility options for vulnerable groups and help regional transit systems regain ridership in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic through these service enhancements.
