The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) received a $529,609 Project Grant award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America (MFA) program (CFDA 45.301). The grant funding will support UCLA's Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden in assessing its plant inventory, improving database management, prioritizing future collection expansion, and developing a strategic plan to meet its goals. The project will involve hiring a post-doctoral curator to lead the inventory assessment and work with undergraduate interns to update the collections database. Additionally, the grant will enable the garden to gather stakeholder input and create a collections management policy and living collections strategic plan. The goal of the project is to enhance the garden's intellectual control over its collections and improve accessibility for the local student community, research community, and the traditional Gabrielino/Tongva land caretakers.
