The Buffalo Museum of Science received a $490,534 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America (MFA) program (CFDA 45.301). The grant will support the museum in gaining intellectual and physical control over its fluid-preserved ichthyological collection, which documents the population of freshwater fishes in regional waterways. The museum will hire a collections assistant to work with student interns and volunteers to create a cohesive catalog, rehouse, photograph, and digitize the collection. The project will also involve creating and installing educational panels about freshwater fish conservation at local freshwater conservation areas. Upon completion, the museum will make the catalog publicly available through open-access collection portals for research and educational purposes.
