The Brockton Area Transit Authority (BAT) was awarded a $10,694,736 Project Grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula, Competitive, and Low or No Emissions Programs (CFDA 20.526). The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for BAT to purchase seven (7) electric transit coaches and associated charging infrastructure to replace diesel transit coaches in their fleet.
The grant will support BAT's activities to enter into a contract for the procurement and delivery of the electric vehicles, as well as the acquisition of technical advisory services and necessary charging equipment and infrastructure improvements. BAT expects to purchase the five (5) replacement buses via a consortium contract in February 2025, and then initiate an option to purchase two (2) additional electric buses for delivery in December 2026. This grant funding will help BAT achieve its zero-emission fleet transition plan, delivering benefits such as reduced energy consumption, harmful emissions, and direct carbon emissions, while also supporting workforce development and training initiatives.
