This Project Grant award, valued at $131,027.00 and awarded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under CFDA 93.866 - Aging Research, supports research to study neuronal proteostasis (protein homeostasis) during brain aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The principal investigator will utilize a novel bioorthogonal non-canonical amino acid tagging (BONCAT) technique to examine changes in neuronal protein turnover in aging and AD models, as well as investigate the role of lysosomes and microglia in regulating neuronal proteostasis. The goal is to identify new targets to promote healthy brain aging. This award will enable the researcher to learn new methodologies and concepts related to proteostasis and autophagy, further developing their capabilities to conduct impactful independent research and serve as a mentor in this field.
