The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) was awarded a $243,000 Project Grant by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under the Aging Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.866) to study the relationship between delirium and biological age in older adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI). This 5-year award will provide salary and research support for Dr. Sara Lahue, a fellowship-trained inpatient neurologist and clinician-investigator, to: 1) identify associations between biological age metrics and post-traumatic delirium, 2) determine if post-traumatic delirium impacts longitudinal cognitive and physical function, and 3) examine the relationship between biological age, delirium, and long-term clinical outcomes in older adults with mild TBI. The findings are expected to inform targeted delirium management strategies and clinical guidance for at-risk older TBI patients to optimize recovery and mitigate cognitive decline.
