The award funds research to improve genetic diagnostic yield for familial hypercholesterolemia, an inherited form of...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation (doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital) $391,700 under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) on February 15, 2026. The award funds mixed-methods health services research to optimize the regionalization of care for acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) and increase appropriate interfacility transfer of ATAAD patients from low-volume to high-volume aortic centers. The research...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation (doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital) $2,401,048 for Project Grant R01HL184086 on September 1, 2026 under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The award funds GO MOMS PREDICT, a prospective study that develops and tests pregnancy-based cardiovascular disease risk assessment models to predict cardiovascular outcomes five years after delivery. The study leverages an existing...
- The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation (doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital) $330,176 on September 25, 2025, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) to conduct mentored research on the effect of severe obesity on regional lung perfusion in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. The award funds two primary research aims. Aim 1 defines the association between severe obesity and regional lung perfusion in a novel...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation (doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital) $614,843 on May 1, 2026, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The award funds research examining the relationship between indexed exercise blood pressure and adverse vascular and ventricular remodeling as risk factors for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF). The research investigates whether the ratio of peak...
- The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation (Massachusetts General Hospital) $867,656 under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) on May 1, 2026, to develop and apply comparative effectiveness evidence methods for evaluating medical therapies in heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFMREF). The award funds completion of the largest echocardiography registry in the world and application of regression discontinuity...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation, doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital, $802,156 under Project Grant R01HL183169 on September 1, 2026, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The award funds development of diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DTI) techniques to image the microstructure of the human right ventricle in vivo. The recipient will develop a diffusion-encoded MRI sequence compensated for...
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The General Hospital Corporation, doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital, $169,348 on August 15, 2026, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The award funds research applying partitioned polygenic risk scoring and machine learning-derived imaging phenotypes to discover novel mechanisms of cardiometabolic disease in people of South Asian ancestry. Dr. Bhattacharya will develop unbiased SNP-level and gene set-level polygenic risk scores using the Broad Institute's Cardiovascular Disease Knowledge Portal to identify genomic subclusters of type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease (Aim 1). The research applies deep-learning methods to MRI and CT images to quantify ectopic adipose distribution and derive data-driven clusters of adiposity phenotypes—including hepatic-predominant, visceral-predominant, and intramuscular-predominant patterns—to determine whether these machine learning-derived phenotypes predict myocardial infarction (Aim 2). Aim 3 evaluates whether distinct partitioned polygenic risk score clusters correlate with imaging phenotypes and cardiometabolic outcomes in South Asian populations. Performance occurs in Boston, Massachusetts with a period of performance from August 15, 2026 through July 31, 2031. The assistance type is a Project Grant. This is an investigator-initiated K08 award supporting early-career development in cardiovascular research focused on a population experiencing disproportionately high cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk.
