The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration awarded Florida Atlantic University $650,000 on August 1, 2026, under the Health Center Program (CFDA 93.224) to continue and expand primary care, dental, and mental health services through the FAU/NCHA Community Health Center serving underserved populations in West Palm Beach, Florida. FAU operates the center in partnership with co-applicant Northwest Community Health Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, under a public entity model established April 1, 2019. The center serves 15 ZIP codes across Palm Beach County, spanning most of West Palm Beach and one adjacent township, covering a service area of 510,507 residents characterized by significant Hispanic and Black populations, concentrated poverty, low educational attainment, and high uninsurance rates. In 2023, the center served 2,795 patients, 75.5 percent from the designated service area. The entire service area is designated as a primary care, dental, and mental health Health Professional Shortage Area; much of it is also a Medically Underserved Population area. The grant period runs August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027, with place of performance in Florida. Funding will support continued access to comprehensive primary health care services addressing the demonstrated gap: existing FQHCs served only 21.1 percent of the low-income population in the service area ZIP codes as of 2022. The NCHA Board meets all Section 330 requirements for federally qualified health center governance.
