This federal Project Grant award of $375,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program will support Intercambios Puerto Rico, Inc. in addressing high rates of substance use disorder (SUD) and co-occurring disorder (COD) in Eastern Puerto Rico. The program will serve 150 individuals in the first year and 175 individuals per year in years 2 and 3, for a total of 500 individuals over the 3-year project period. Key services to be provided include screening for SUD/COD and suicide risk, treatment of SUD/COD, harm reduction services, tobacco cessation, case management, peer support, community engagement, and the purchase of fentanyl/xylazine test strips and overdose reversal medications. The program will also implement evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Transtheoretical Model, and Group Peer Support. Intercambios Puerto Rico, Inc. has also received sub-grants from the Administracion De Servicios De Salud Mental Y Contra La Adiccion to provide additional evidence-based treatment and harm reduction services in eastern Puerto Rico clinics.
