The Modoc Nation was awarded a $750,000 Project Grant under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The grant, with a project period from September 30, 2024 to September 29, 2029, will support the Modoc Nation's Tribal Opioid Response Project. This project will provide training, outreach, and harm reduction materials to individuals with or at risk of opioid use disorder (OUD) and substance use disorder (SUD) in Ottawa County, Oklahoma and surrounding areas. Key activities include Narcan administration training, distribution of Narcan kits, drug testing strips, and medication lock boxes, cultural competency training for treatment providers, and stigma-reducing and treatment-access campaigns. The project will also focus on prevention, education, and awareness activities targeted toward transition-aged youth (18-25 years old) in the target region.
