The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded a $245,488 Project Grant under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program to Full Circle Recovery Community Centers for the "Building Communities of Recovery Through Expanded Recovery Support Services" project. The project aims to expand peer recovery support services and build the peer recovery specialist workforce in Iowa, with a focus on providing services to incarcerated individuals and those greatly impacted by substance use disorders and co-occurring mental disorders. Key strategies include recovery coaching, peer support groups, volunteer opportunities, social activities, resource connection, community education, and trainings. The project plans to serve 1,377 individuals over 3 years, provide recovery services to at least 100 incarcerated individuals and 100 re-entering the community, train 50 state corrections staff and 50 county jail staff in peer recovery support, and establish a peer recovery specialist workforce development plan.
