The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded a $750,000 Project Grant under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program to Guara Bi Inc., a non-profit organization in Puerto Rico. This 5-year award from September 2024 to September 2029 will support Guara Bi's prevention and life skills training efforts targeting youth ages 13-24 in Puerto Rico to address underage drinking, marijuana use, and electronic cigarette use. Key objectives include: conducting a comprehensive needs assessment, developing an implementation plan, delivering 108 prevention messages on social media, conducting 100 community outreach and prevention workshops annually, and providing life skills training to 360 youth over the project period. The grant also aims to strengthen protective factors and mitigate risk factors among the target population.
