The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA Center for Mental Health Services) awarded $599,243 to Children and Youth Cabinet on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.532). Children and Youth Cabinet will establish an NCTSN Treatment and Service Adaptation Center to disseminate FFT for Trauma (FFT-T), a clinically deepened version of Functional Family Therapy adapted for youth ages 11–18 and their families involved in child welfare and juvenile justice. The center will build the National Child Traumatic Stress Network's capacity to deliver FFT-T with high fidelity at scale and sustain the intervention beyond the grant period. The adaptation addresses a structural capacity gap: FFT is rated well-supported by the Title IV-E clearinghouse and widely publicly funded, yet absent from NCTSN's published guidance on trauma interventions. Work spans a five-year period of performance ending September 29, 2031, and operates nationally with priority outreach to NCTSN sites in the 34 states where FFT appears on approved FFPSA Title IV-E Prevention Plans. The project targets youth ages 11–18 in child welfare or juvenile justice, including youth in out-of-home placement, at risk of removal, and court-involved youth in family-based intervention experiencing maltreatment, complex trauma, placement instability, or trauma from justice system involvement. The NCTSN workforce—clinicians, supervisors, administrators, and system leaders—is the primary capacity-building audience. Place of performance is Providence, Rhode Island.
