The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded The NC Youth Violence Prevention Center $735,000 on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.532). The NC Youth Violence Prevention Center, designated by the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina as lead implementation agency, will establish the Lumbee Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Network. The project delivers youth suicide prevention capacity through screening, referral, safety planning, family support, care coordination, training, postvention, and performance monitoring for youth and young adults up to age 24. The network will coordinate prevention and postvention services across child- and youth-serving systems, connecting the Lumbee Tribe, tribal community health workers, Boys & Girls Clubs and tribal youth programs, juvenile justice and diversion partners, behavioral health providers, child welfare and foster care partners, pediatric and public health providers, schools, crisis services including 988, and family-serving organizations. The project targets Lumbee and other eligible youth and young adults up to age 24 at risk for suicidal ideation, suicidal behavior, self-harm, trauma-related distress, depression, anxiety, substance use, violence exposure, family instability, or system involvement. The geographic area includes Robeson County and surrounding Lumbee-serving communities in southeastern North Carolina, which experience high poverty, trauma exposure, violence, behavioral health need, transportation barriers, and shortages of youth mental health providers. The period of performance runs from September 30, 2026, through September 29, 2031. Place of performance is Lumberton, North Carolina.
