The University of Southern California (USC) has been awarded a $499,999 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs (CFDA 45.164) to conduct a humanities discussions project titled "LA2026." This 3-year project will bring together members of the public and humanities scholars for 18 conversations about museum and cultural exhibitions at 6 partnering institutions in the Los Angeles region. The discussions will reframe conversations about the 1776 anniversary from the perspective of California and the West, addressing topics such as underrepresented groups, national identities, regional and national narratives, the struggle for democracy, climate change, and the nation's journey to an equitable and just society. The project directly responds to the NEH's American Tapestry and A More Perfect Union initiatives, which focus on engaging the public in humanities-based discussions around these themes.
