The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (Lynx) received a $76.5 million project grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration under the Urbanized Area Formula Funding Program on August 13, 2021. Lynx will use the funding to support operating expenses and capital projects that prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, Lynx will use over $66 million for operating assistance, preventative maintenance, and ADA paratransit services in the Orlando urbanized area. An additional $10.5 million will support these same eligible activities in the Kissimmee urbanized area. Allowable operating expenses include salaries and benefits, fuel, materials and supplies, utilities, insurance, and other costs. The grant will also fund $1 million for security expenditures to protect Lynx employees. All funding must be expended by March 30, 2027. This project grant was awarded under the American Rescue Plan Act to help public transit agencies respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
