The University of Nebraska was awarded a $500,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (CFDA 81.135 - Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy) to develop a first-of-its-kind 10 kV high-frequency press-pack silicon carbide MOSFET module called METAPAK. The METAPAK module is designed to enable novel high-frequency HVDC and MVDC converter topologies and boost grid resilience. Key goals of the project include achieving high modularity, adaptivity, and scalability; fast switching transients and high frequency operation; low electromagnetic interference; partial discharge-free operation; and high packaging ruggedness and explosion-proof design. This 2-year project aims to advance critical technology for next-generation power electronics and electrical grid infrastructure.
