This Project Grant award from the Department of the Interior's Office of Insular Affairs (CFDA 15.875 - Economic, Social, and Political Development of the Territories) will provide $362,460 to the University of Guam (UOG) to enhance the operational capacity of their detector dog program. Specifically, the funding will be used to construct a permanent roof covering over the existing kennel facilities to protect canine teams from extreme weather, as well as conduct a two-year population genetics study to track the spread and genetic diversity of the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) in Guam, with a focus on detecting and mapping the distribution of the O. rhinoceros nudivirus (ORNV). The grant award period runs from November 6, 2025 through September 30, 2029.
