This $850,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Healthcare Systems Bureau (CFDA 93.493 - Congressional Directives) will support the Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes' expansion project in Elk Grove Village, IL. The funding will enable the purchase of specialized moveable equipment, including pasteurizers, freezers, and assembly equipment, to increase the milk bank's processing capacity and meet growing demand for donor human milk. This equipment upgrade will allow the milk bank to expand its distribution from 700,000 to over 1,000,000 ounces of pasteurized donor milk annually by 2025. The expanded facility and enhanced operations will enable the milk bank to serve more hospitals and families across Illinois and Wisconsin, improving access to life-saving donor milk for premature and medically fragile infants. The award will be used to upgrade the milk bank's infrastructure, research capabilities, and education/outreach programs, positively impacting healthcare partners, public health departments, and the broader community.
