This $125,000 project grant from the Executive Office of the President Inter-American Foundation will support Instituto De Estudos Sociais E Terapias Integrativas (IESTI) in their work to expand economic opportunities in tourism for residents of the historic district of São Luiz do Maranhão, Brazil through September 2025. IESTI will map local opportunities, train tourism service providers, and foster networking around culture and community-based tourism in partnership with area residents, museums, businesses and tourism operators. This work aligns with the objectives of the Inter-American Foundation Assistance for Overseas Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean program (CFDA No. 85.750) to strengthen regional bonds and support self-help efforts that address the basic needs of poor communities.
