The City of Hialeah Public Library in Florida will receive $236,712 through a one-year Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' National Leadership Grants program (CFDA 45.312) to counteract the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in its community. Through the grant, the library will offer weekly digital literacy workshops at five branches serving low-income neighborhoods to help residents of all ages and backgrounds gain skills to work, learn, find jobs and grow businesses from home. Specifically, the library will lend laptops and hotspots along with instruction on their use to support remote study, work and economic recovery in Hialeah, which experienced high coronavirus case rates and unemployment during the pandemic. The funding will allow the library to provide essential technology resources and training from November 2021 through October 2022.
