APPLICATION PURPOSE: THE GOALS OF THE AWARD ARE TO REPLACE THE JONESBORO ECONOMICAL TRANSPORTATION (JET) AGING DIESEL POWERED TRANSIT BUSES ENCOURAGE CLEAN ENERGY MODES OF TRANSPORTATION TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE EMISSIONS TO INCREASE INTEREST IN USING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION INSTEAD OF PERSONAL GAS VEHICLES AND IMPROVE SERVICE PERFORMANCE TO JETS RISING RIDERSHIP.; ACTIVITIES PERFORMED: THE CITY WILL COMPLETE THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS AND ACQUIRE THREE BIDS. THEN A CONTRACT WILL BE AWARDED TO THE COMPANY WITH THE LOWEST BID. THE CITY WILL PURCHASE AND ORDER FIVE HYBRID BUSES FROM THE COMPANY WITH THE WINNING BID. THE HYBRID BUSES ARE DELIVERED AND JET DRIVERS AND MAINTENANCE STAFF UNDERGO TRAINING. THESE ARE THE ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED.; EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THE BENEFITS ARE TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE EMISSIONS IMPROVE BUS TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY ENCOURAGE BUS TRANSPORTATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO PERSONAL VEHICULAR USE AND BETTER SERVE THE CITYS MOST VULNERABLE POPULATION AS THEY ARE THE ONES USING JONESBOROS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.THE CITY WANTS TO ENSURE THAT IT IS COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE WHILE PROVIDING EQUITABLE TRANSIT OPTIONS FOR EACH RESIDENT AND MOVING AWAY FROM BEING DEPENDENT ON DIESEL POWERED BUSES WHICH ALLOWS JONESBORO TO SET A PRECEDENT FOR RESIDENTS AS WELL AS OTHER CITIES IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. THE HYBRID BUSES WILL REPLACE AND EXPAND JONESBOROS AGING FLEET THAT IS CAUSING MORE POLLUTION RISKING HIGH MAINTENANCE COSTS AND DECREASING SERVICE PERFORMANCE.; INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: THE BENEFITED POPULATION WILL BE INDIVIDUALS IN POVERTY PERSONS THAT ARE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION DEPENDENT DUE TO NOT HAVING A VEHICLE JONESBOROS LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY POPULATION (INTERNATIONAL POPULATION UNIVERSITY FOREIGN STUDENTS) PERSON WITH DISABILITIES AND THE ELDERLY.; SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES: N/A
