THE TRIBE HAS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL TO GROW ITS ECONOMY, DIVERSITY ITS REVENUE STREAMS, CREATE JOBS, AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ON ITS LANDS IF IT IS SUCCESSFUL AT PLANNING, FUNDING, AND EXECUTING TRIBALLY-LED STRATEGIES TO ENGAGE IN A VARIETY OF INDUSTRIES. ENGAGING IN THESE INDUSTRIES COULD ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THE BROADER GOALS OF THE TRIBE, STATE AND COUNTY BY FOSTERING ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE, AND CREATING A ROBUST CATALYST FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE SALTON SEA REGION. ONE SUCH INDUSTRY IS THE LITHIUM ECOSYSTEM. TORRES MARTINEZ IS PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN CAPTURING THE VALUE CHAIN AND ONSHORING OTHER VERTICALS BESIDES RECOVERY SUCH AS MANUFACTURING CATHODE ACTIVE MATERIAL, CELLS, PACKS, AND LITHIUM-ION BATTERY END OF LIFE. DESPITE THE SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL, THERE ARE MANY CHALLENGES TO SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIES, AS WELL AS POTENTIAL CULTURAL, ECONOMIC HEALTH WELLNESS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS THAT MUST BE CONSIDERED.
