The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe was awarded a $226,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 to establish environmental protection programs under the Indian Environmental General Assistance Program (GAP). The two-year grant running from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2023 will enable the Band to plan, develop, and build its capacity to implement programs that directly benefit the citizens of the Leech Lake Band in Minnesota. The EPA's Indian Environmental GAP aims to assist tribes in planning, developing, and establishing the capability to implement federal environmental programs through financial and technical assistance to tribal governments.
