The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 awarded a $158,731 Project Grant to the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) under the "Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act" (CFDA 66.034) program. The grant will fund the rebuilding of the Sacramento-Del Paso Manor air monitoring station, which is one of six NCore sites operating in California and a design value site for PM2.5 monitoring. The activities include demolishing the current station and constructing a new, larger monitoring station to expand capacity for monitoring PM10, PM2.5, ozone, NO2, NOY, SO2, and VOCs. The anticipated outcomes include improved data collection to enhance the understanding of ozone formation and continued monitoring of particulate matter to ensure the Sacramento metropolitan area meets high air quality standards. The intended beneficiaries are the residents of the Sacramento area.
