The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) received a $1.78 million Project Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 under the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund Corrective Action Program (CFDA 66.805), effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2030. This award supports ADEQ's Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Corrective Action Program, which addresses petroleum releases from underground storage tanks across Arizona. The primary services delivered include investigation and assessment of suspected petroleum releases, oversight and enforcement of corrective actions by responsible facility owners and operators, and direct remediation activities when owners or operators are unable, unwilling, or unknown.
ADEQ will submit cleanup data to the EPA's LUST4 database system as the deliverable under this agreement. The anticipated outcome is a measurable reduction in the backlog of underground storage tank releases awaiting remediation completion, thereby protecting Arizona's groundwater resources and public health. No subawards are included in this agreement, and preaward costs are approved retroactively to July 1, 2025.
