This $20,000,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616) will fund a drinking water consolidation project in Watsonville, CA. The grant recipient, Community Water Center (CWC), and its partner Pajaro Sunny Mesa Community Services District (PSMCSD) will implement the project, which includes constructing an iron and manganese treatment facility, upgrading the Pajaro well site to reduce flooding, installing a pump station and pipelines to connect the Pajaro, Sunny Mesa, and Springfield water systems, and implementing a SCADA system and radio-read meters. The project will provide a safe, resilient, and affordable water supply to approximately 5,170 disadvantaged residents. Additionally, CWC will install residential rainwater catchment and laundry-to-landscape greywater systems and conduct community outreach to engage residents in the project. The award period is from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028.
