This $100,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Environmental Education Grants Program (CFDA 66.951) will enable the Nevada System of Higher Education's Desert Research Institute (DRI) to implement a two-year environmental education project focused on increasing environmental literacy and stewardship in Nevada. The project will design, demonstrate, and disseminate environmental education practices, methods, and techniques to address microplastic pollution in Nevada's waterways. Key activities include providing 180 middle school teachers with STEM kits based on the 5E instructional model, engaging 865 students in the microplastics curriculum, and reaching 810 community members through project activities. DRI will also issue five $5,000 sub-awards over the two-year project period to support the goal of increasing environmental literacy and stewardship in Nevada.
