This Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Pollution Prevention Grants Program (CFDA 66.708) provides $127,911 to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) to offer technical assistance to businesses in Virginia for adopting source reduction practices, also known as pollution prevention (P2).
The project will leverage VDEQ's Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) to provide on-site and off-site technical assistance, training, and P2 walk-throughs at manufacturing facilities. This includes holding four regional one-day workshops to share P2 best practices and establish environmental management systems. The technical assistance will focus on helping businesses, especially those in underserved communities, reduce resource use, expenditures, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions. The project aims to expand on VDEQ's previous P2 work with food and beverage manufacturers to help them realize environmental and cost savings.
