Cherokee Nation received a $900,000 Project Grant from the Administration for Native Americans under the Native American Programs (CFDA 93.612) for the "Teach Me Project," awarded July 1, 2025, with a completion date of June 30, 2028. The project focuses on Native American language preservation and educational services through the development and delivery of four primary components: intake evaluations to assess language proficiency and learning needs; individual family language plans tailored to participant circumstances; curriculum development for language instruction; and a digital language learning platform to facilitate accessible, technology-enabled language education.
This three-year initiative aligns with the Native American Programs' core mission to promote economic and social self-sufficiency for American Indians by preserving cultural heritage and languages through community-driven projects. The project addresses a locally identified need within the Cherokee Nation community and will be implemented in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by the Cherokee Nation, a federally recognized tribal government. The comprehensive approach—combining assessment, planning, curriculum, and digital delivery mechanisms—is designed to create sustainable language revitalization outcomes that extend beyond the grant funding period.
