The US Agency for International Development Senegal awarded $500,000 under the USAID Foreign Assistance for Programs Overseas (CFDA 98.001) federal grant program to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support relief efforts for communities affected by flooding in The Gambia. Heavy rains from July 30-31, 2022 caused widespread flooding across several regions of The Gambia, damaging over 2,000 homes and impacting water, sanitation and food security. Under this five-month project grant awarded September 3, 2022 and concluding January 2, 2023, IFRC will deliver emergency shelter, water and sanitation services, and food assistance to flood-impacted populations in Banjul, Kanifing Municipality, West Coast, and North Bank Regions of The Gambia. The grant aims to address critical humanitarian needs through the established relief operations of IFRC.
