The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) awarded a $1,926,000 Project Grant under the Congressionally-Identified Projects program (CFDA 11.617) to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) to build a seamless, smart integration framework for wildfire-related data, models, and interfaces. The project, called the Wildfire Technology Commons (WTC), will bring together experts in data science, computing, AI, fire science, hydrology, and emergency management to collaborate on developing next-generation systems and strategies for wildfire response and mitigation. The WTC will create an open data platform, standards, white papers, and technology roadmaps to enable innovations that can make communities safer and more resilient to wildfires. The project activities are expected to run from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026.
