The key activities include: Protecting and restoring habitats, including wetlands, through the Habitat Program Supporting water quality protection and restoration, including...
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $962,889 Project Grant under the Centers of Excellence for Stormwater Control Infrastructure Technologies Grant Program (CFDA 66.490) to the Center for Watershed Protection, Inc. to establish a Coastal Stormwater Center (CSC) in the Southeastern U.S. The CSC will conduct applied research on innovative stormwater management approaches, provide technical assistance to state, tribal, and local governments, and develop a comprehensive suite of...
- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Earth Sciences, under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050), provides $499,696 to the Stroud Water Research Center Inc. to conduct collaborative research on nitrogen pollution removal processes in riparian soils and wetlands. Specifically, the award will fund an innovative study from July 2022 to June 2025 to identify the key soil conditions that regulate the balance between dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) and...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences under the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program (CFDA 47.075) provides $350,000 to William Marsh Rice University to investigate how engaging coastal communities in stormwater management can enhance flood resilience. The research explores two interventions: increasing civic engagement in infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance processes (infrastructural...
- This $499,942 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (CFDA 47.075) program supports research investigating the impacts of climate change on coastal communities in an urban environment. The key products and services to be delivered under this 3-year award (August 2024 - July 2027) include: Analysis of the alignment between water infrastructure, policies, and practices with emerging climate and environmental challenges such as...
- This $1,700,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the National Estuary Program (CFDA 66.456) supports the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in implementing the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the Piscataqua Region Estuary. Key activities include assessing trends in water quality, habitats, and natural resources; coordinating CCMP implementation with partners; and monitoring the effectiveness of CCMP activities. The award...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering (CFDA 47.041) Project Grant award of $250,000 to Stetson University, Inc. will establish a pilot green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) bioswale and associated hydrologic monitoring system at Veterans Memorial Park in the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida. The project aims to objectively test the field performance of GSI interventions for mitigating stormwater-based flooding and non-point nutrient load issues in the Indian River Lagoon watershed, a...
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $1,049,719 Project Grant under the Centers of Excellence for Stormwater Control Infrastructure Technologies Grant Program (CFDA 66.490) to the Nevada System of Higher Education, through its Desert Research Institute (DRI). The funding will establish the EPA Southwest Regional Stormwater Center of Excellence, which aims to unify the stormwater research, management, and practitioner community across the Southwest region. The Center will focus...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) project grant award of $383,116 aims to improve understanding of how long-term treated wastewater inputs affect the ecological functioning and health of arid river systems. The research focuses on the Rio Grande River near Albuquerque, New Mexico, which receives substantial treated effluent from a major facility, to quantify atmospheric, hydrological, biogeochemical, and biological variables over multiple temporal scales....
PURPOSE: THE PURPOSE OF THIS GRANT IS TO RESEARCH EXISTING STORMWATER FACILITIES IN A DECONSTRUCTIVE INVESTIGATIVE MANNER IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE LONG-TERM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE QUESTIONS RELATED TO LIFE-CYCLE COSTS AND EXPECTATIONS WITH RESPECT TO GREEN STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE.ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: THE PROPOSAL WILL PERFORM THE FOLLOWING FOUR ACTIVITIES:TASK 1: INVESTIGATE AND FORENSICALLY RESEARCH TWO COMMON GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNOLOGIES(BIORETENTION AND SUBSURFACE GRAVEL WETLANDS) TO EVALUATE LONG TERM EFFICACY OF SYSTEMCOMPONENTS.TASK 2: SCIENTIFICALLY COMMENT ON LIFE CYCLE EXPECTANCY AND POTENTIAL CAUSES OF FAILURE OF GREENSTORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE.TASK 3: UPDATE THE CENTERS FIELD TEST SITE AND LABORATORY SO IT CAN TEST AND DEMONSTRATE EMERGINGSTORMWATER TECHNOLOGIES AND APPROACHES, INCLUDING NATURE-BASED SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPED BY THE PRIVATE SECTOR.TASK 4: EXPAND CURRENT EQUIPMENT WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART REAL-TIME MONITORING EQUIPMENT TO SUPPORT TESTING AND EVALUATION OF INNOVATIVE STORMWATER CONTROLS THAT CAN BETTER MANAGESTORMWATER, PROMOTE LIVING SHORELINES, PROTECT TIDAL CROSSINGS, AND COOPERATE ACROSS TOWNBOUNDARIES.EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THIS CENTER WILL UPDATE AND ENHANCE ITS CORE FIELD TESTING LABORATORY FACILITIES SO AS TO STRENGTHEN ITS PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING INDUSTRY AND POSITION ITSELF TO CONTINUE TO RESEARCH 21ST CENTURY EMERGENT ISSUES INFORMING LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL ENTITIES INVOLVED IN STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AND COASTAL RESILIENCY.INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: STATE REGULATORY AGENCIES DEALING WITH POLLUTION, COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY STORMWATER POLLUTION, LOCAL CITIZENS AFFECTED BY STORMWATER POLLUTION.SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES: THE RECIPIENT PLANS TO ENGAGE AN UNNAMED CONSULTING ORGANIZATION FOR ANALYTICAL SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH THE FORENSIC INVESTIGATION OF THE CURRENT AND NEW SYSTEM. UNH WILL ALSO EMPLOY AN ORGANIZATION, EAST COAST EXCAVATING, IN THE DECONSTRUCTION AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW SYSTEM IN CONCERT WITH UNH FACILITIES STAFF.
