The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded a $73,184,563.61 Project Grant under the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund Grant Program (CFDA 11.038) to John Mezzalingua Associates LLC (JMA Wireless) to further develop the American, Ruggedized, Modular, O-RAN, Radio (ARMOR) platform. The 18-month project aims to move four O-RU variants from Technology Readiness Level 5 to 7 and Manufacturing Readiness Level 4 to 8. Key activities include integrating and validating the O-RUs into open RAN end-to-end systems, performing compliance testing and emissions certification, and manufacturing the first units for use by mobile network operator partners. JMA Wireless will also issue subawards to Booz Allen Hamilton and Virginia Tech to support specialized testing and evaluation services. The primary outcome is the development of the ARMOR platform to deliver cost-effective, energy-efficient macro and in-building/small cell radio units for major mobile network providers.
