The Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration Great Lakes Region awarded the Wayne County Airport Authority $18.3 million under the Airport Improvement Program, COVID-19 Airports Programs, and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Programs (CFDA 20.106) to reconstruct taxiway pavement at Detroit Metropolitan Airport from March 2023 through March 2027. Specifically, the project grant will fund the second phase of reconstructing 7,200 feet of existing Taxiway Y pavement from taxiway R to taxiway Y3 that has reached the end of its useful life. The Airport Improvement Program aims to maintain and enhance air transportation safety, efficiency, resiliency, and sustainability across the national airport system. This particular award supports those strategic goals by providing federal funding to improve infrastructure critical for airport operations in Detroit, Michigan.
