The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) received a $16.765 million project grant award from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Airport Improvement Program, COVID-19 Airports Programs, and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Programs (CFDA 20.106) to fund airport infrastructure improvements at Saint Mary's Airport in Alaska. The grant award, issued on May 16, 2023 with a completion date of May 15, 2027, will support reconstruction of taxiway and runway lighting systems, rehabilitation of taxiways, aprons, and runways, construction and extension of safety areas, and replacement of navigational aids to meet FAA design standards and extend the useful life of aviation assets. Specifically, the funding will go toward the second phase of projects including final apron rehabilitation, lighting system reconstruction, runway rehabilitation, safety area extension, taxiway rehabilitation, and wind cone and segmented circle replacement. The grant aims to enhance safety at the airport through these infrastructure upgrades.
